Twin Cities Stump Removal handles stump grinding and stump removal work across the Twin Cities Metro from our base in Eden Prairie. Most calls are for a stump that is in the way of mowing, a new patio, a fence, or a tree that has already been taken down. We grind the stump below grade, clean up the work area, and give you a clear price before we schedule.
We work on one stump in a back yard, a row of old stumps along a property line, and larger jobs for HOAs, landlords, and commercial properties. The normal job minimum is $250. Send a photo, the stump measurement, and your address, and Tristan will usually reply with a photo quote within an hour on weekdays.
Not every stump needs the same treatment. Standard grinding is usually the cleanest and least disruptive option, but a root ball may need to come out when you are building directly over the spot. Here is the work we offer and when each service makes sense.
Every stump removal service we offer
- Standard stump grinding for most residential stumps, ground 8–12 inches below grade.
- Full stump removal (root ball extraction) when a project needs the main root mass out.
- Large & giant stumps (36"+) quoted from photos because wood, access, and root flare matter.
- Multiple stumps & HOA jobs with volume discounts when we can do the work in one visit.
- Commercial & property manager work for rental properties, common areas, and site cleanup.
- Same-day / emergency stump service when a stump is holding up a repair, sale, or contractor schedule.
- Lawn restoration after grinding, including chip haul-off and black-dirt top-dressing options.
- Grinding vs. removal — which do you need? for a plain-language look at the two approaches.
How our stump grinding service works
- Send a photo for a quote. Text a clear photo of the stump, its diameter at ground level, and your address to 952-388-3327. Include a gate or access photo when the back yard is tight.
- Pick a day. Once you approve the written price, we schedule the job. Most standard jobs are completed within 4–7 business days, and faster dates are often available around the metro.
- We request the utility locate. Twin Cities Stump Removal calls 811 on your behalf. It normally takes about three business days, so it is best to get the process started before the job is urgent.
- We grind the stump. We protect nearby hard surfaces, work the stump down 8–12 inches below grade as standard, and can go deeper when your project calls for it.
- We clean up. The grindings can stay in a neat pile for mulch or fill, or we can haul them away for an added $75–$150. Black dirt top-dressing is also available for $75–$150.
- You pay after the work is done. There is no deposit required for a normal stump grinding job.
What our stump grinding service includes
- 811 utility-locate request made by us before the job.
- Protective plywood where needed on driveways, sidewalks, or other hard surfaces.
- Stump grinding 8–12 inches below grade as the standard depth.
- A tidy chip pile left on-site, or optional chip haul-off for $75–$150.
- No deposit on standard jobs; payment is due after the stump is ground and the site is cleaned up.
What it doesn’t include
Stump grinding takes care of the visible stump and creates room for grass, mulch, or many landscaping projects. It does not automatically mean every large root is pulled from the ground. If you need the root ball extracted for a footing, pool, or other build, ask for full stump removal when you send the photo.
- Root ball extraction unless it is specifically quoted as an upgrade.
- Tree removal or cutting down a standing tree.
- Sod installation, although we can top-dress the area with black dirt.
- Tree trimming, pruning, or general arborist work.
Equipment we use
For most yards, we use a Rayco RG27, a 27HP self-propelled stump grinder. It has the power for everyday residential and commercial stumps without bringing in the oversized equipment that can make a lawn repair harder. The machine is controlled at the stump, so we can work steadily and keep the cut contained.
For narrow access, we use a compact 25-inch walk-behind grinder that fits through a 36-inch gate. That matters if the stump is behind a fence or between houses. We will ask about access up front so the right machine shows up and there is no surprise on job day.
Why choose a local stump specialist over a full tree service
A full tree service is the right call when a tree still needs to come down. But many tree crews subcontract the stump work after the tree is gone. Twin Cities Stump Removal is the stump specialist, so you are talking directly with the person pricing and doing the grinding instead of paying for another company in the middle.
That keeps the scope simple, the price practical, and the scheduling faster. We are set up for stump work every day, from one small stump in Minneapolis to multiple large stumps on a Twin Cities property. If all you need is the stump handled, there is no reason to turn it into a larger tree-service job.
