Burnsville’s bluff-top neighborhoods overlooking the Minnesota River still hold a good number of mature bur oak, some of them old enough to predate the suburb entirely. Silver maple and cottonwood dominate the lower, flatter parts of the city near Crystal Lake and Alimagnet Lake, where wide, shallow root systems make for some of our trickier grinding jobs. Ash was planted heavily along boulevards during the 70s and 80s development wave, and emerald ash borer has been steadily working through that stock.
