Serving Blaine Stump Grinding

Blaine Stump Grinding

Blaine's fast growth over the last three decades left a mix of old farmstead trees and new development plantings, and we grind both across this sprawling north-metro suburb.

Trees we grind most in Blaine

Blaine was mostly farmland and open fields until the growth boom of the 1990s and 2000s, so a lot of what we grind here is either original farmstead windbreak trees — Norway spruce, cottonwood, and old boxelder — or younger developer plantings like Norway maple and honeylocust that are just now reaching removal age. Ash was planted widely through the subdivision boom and is now under heavy pressure from emerald ash borer. Silver maple shows up near the wetlands and lake areas that dot the city’s landscape. Blaine’s mixed development history means stump sizes here range more widely than in older, more uniform suburbs.

Working the Blaine landscape

The National Sports Center and the surrounding Aquatore neighborhood represent one of Blaine’s most recognizable landmarks, and boulevard tree work in that area tends to follow the same development-era plantings as the rest of the city. Rice Creek runs through the western part of Blaine, and properties along it often have older cottonwood and box elder stumps from before the area was subdivided. The city’s numerous small lakes — Blaine Lakes, Lake George — bring cottonwood and willow stump work typical of shoreline lots. Blaine’s rapid, recent growth means we’re often working alongside ongoing development rather than in fully mature neighborhoods.

Ash borer & disease work in Blaine

Blaine’s ash trees, planted heavily during the subdivision boom of the 90s and 2000s, are now aging into emerald ash borer territory, and the city has been removing infested boulevard ash as it’s identified. Because so much of Blaine was developed in a relatively short window, ash losses tend to affect large sections of newer neighborhoods at once rather than scattered individual trees. Storm damage from the 2022 derecho and 2023 straight-line wind events also hit parts of the north metro, including some of Blaine’s newer wooded developments. Dutch Elm disease isn’t a major factor here given how little of the city had mature elm to begin with before development — this is really an ash and storm-damage story.

How far is Blaine from your base and how fast can you schedule?

Blaine is about 40-45 minutes from our Eden Prairie base, so we batch jobs there for efficiency — usually scheduled within a week or two.

Why is so much of my new neighborhood losing ash trees at once?

A lot of Blaine's subdivisions were built and planted within the same few years during the 90s and 2000s boom, so the ash trees are all reaching emerald ash borer vulnerability around the same time.

Do you grind old farmstead windbreak trees?

Yes, we regularly handle old spruce and cottonwood windbreaks left over from farmland that's since been developed.

Can you work on stumps near Blaine's smaller lakes?

Yes, we've done a number of cottonwood and willow removals on shoreline lots around Blaine Lakes and Lake George.

Do I need a permit for stump removal in Blaine?

Not for private property. Boulevard trees are city-managed, so confirm with Blaine's public works department if your stump is near the street.
